Kathryn joined Azuora at the beginning of the year as an Architect and has quickly become a valued member of the team. She works across projects from initial concept through to completion and has already made her mark on bespoke homes and the sensitive conversion of listed buildings.
With over 10 years of experience since graduating, Kathryn has built a career designing everything from bespoke homes to listed building conversions. Away from work, she’s a proud mum of three and has even ticked a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara off her bucket list – so it’s fair to say life keeps her busy!

Inspiration From a Young Age
Kathryn has always been creative, so architecture felt like the perfect way to combine her love of art and design with her interest in buildings and construction.
Funny enough, Kathryn recently found an old school careers report from her first year at the academy, where her careers advisor had written that architecture would be the ideal career for her. She’d completely forgotten about it, so it was a nice reminder that maybe this was always the path she was meant to take.
Getting accepted onto the architecture course at RGU was a dream come true, and Kathryn has never looked back.
Life at Azuora Architects
Kathryn explains that Azuora is a close-knit team, where everyone is always willing to support each other. She also really enjoys building strong relationships with our clients and the wider design team.
“Good communication and collaboration make such a difference, and it’s rewarding to see projects come together because everyone is working towards the same goal.”
Kathryn goes on to say she has been lucky enough to work on some fantastic projects since joining Azuora. One that really stands out is a bespoke home designed around an existing listed garden wall, and another is the conversion of a former listed water treatment works into unique holiday accommodation.
Unique to the North East, and an incredibly proud feature of Azuora Architects, is that the team here will consist of all qualified architects (once Jack and Euan complete their final exams in the next year) ensuring expert input from start to finish. Every project is architect-led, and Kathryn has had the opportunity to lead both projects from the design stage and is really looking forward to seeing them come to life on site.
Beyond Architecture
Outside of work, Kathryn is a busy mum to three wonderful children, and she loves that they get to see her building a career that she’s passionate about alongside family life.
When Kathryn gets the chance, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling, trying new restaurants, cooking, heading to the gym and getting outdoors. She also likes taking on the odd DIY project.
Advice for aspiring Architects
Kathryn’s first answer is always, “Don’t do it!”… only joking!
Architecture can be challenging and demanding, but if you’re passionate about it, it’s an incredibly rewarding career.
For her, the best part is seeing a happy client at the end of a project. “There’s nothing quite like watching something you’ve worked so hard on become a reality.”
