Azuora Architects Aberdeenshire

Meet Jack, a 25-year-old Part 2 Architectural Assistant at Azuora Architects. A local to the North East of Scotland, Jack grew up in Westhill and has always enjoyed the countryside and community that the area offers. He recently graduated with a Master’s in Architecture from Robert Gordon University and has now returned to Azuora Architects full-time.

Jack first joined Azuora Architects in the summer of 2022 for his Part 1 placement after Fiona reached out to the university. What began as a year-long placement quickly turned into something more—Jack just didn’t want to leave, and the team at Azuora didn’t want to see him go! He stayed on part-time while finishing his studies, and since June 2025 has been back full-time as a qualified Part 2 Architectural Assistant. “I feel lucky to have found Azuora Architects with such a wide variety of projects to get stuck into and learn from,” Jack explains and of course, we are delighted here to have Jack on board full time with us to support on projects.

Fiona, Director at Azuora Architects, adds: “We are delighted to have Jack back with us to continue his professional journey. He has been a huge asset to our team.”

A career in Architecture

Interestingly, Architecture wasn’t always in Jack’s future plans, but once he discovered the course at university, it stood out as the perfect fit. Teachers and friends encouraged him, recognising his creativity and problem-solving skills. Six years of study later, he’s certain he made the right choice. “I haven’t looked back,” he says. “The course was challenging but incredibly rewarding.”

A day in the role

Jack’s days vary from creating broad design concepts for clients to focusing on the finer, technical details of a project. He particularly enjoys client meetings and site visits, which he thinks help keep him engaged with every stage of development.

When asked about a favourite project, Jack finds it difficult to choose. “Every project has something different to teach,” he explains. “From large-scale builds to small home extensions, each one brings new challenges and learning opportunities.” – The rest of the team at Azuroa Architects would have to agree with this too!

Design philosophy

Jack describes his design approach as people-focused, sustainable, and sensitive to context. He believes that truly successful architecture comes from understanding the client’s needs while respecting the site and its surroundings—creating something functional, long-lasting, and meaningful.

Life at Azuora

One of the things Jack enjoys most about working at Azuora Architects is the hands-on experience that comes with being part of a small, close-knit team. “It allows me to get involved in so many different aspects of projects,” he says. “And working with clients who are excited about their projects makes it even more motivating.”

Beyond Architecture

Outside of work, Jack is a dedicated supporter of Peterhead Football Club. The team has been part of his family for generations—his grandfather is one of the directors—and match days have become a big part of his weekends. While he’s not interested in playing himself, he loves being part of the atmosphere and tradition.

Advice for aspiring Architects

For anyone considering architecture, Jack is open and honest: “Be prepared for a challenging but rewarding journey. It takes patience, persistence, and creativity. You won’t know everything right away, so be open to learning from others and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”
